Family Physicians are specialists, just like obstetricians, pediatricians or surgeons. Unlike those doctors, however, Family Physicians are trained to treat the entire family. They possess unique attitudes, skills and knowledge to provide continuous, comprehensive health care for any patient, regardless of sex, age or type of problem. They receive three years additional post-graduate training in real practice settings, treating patients in the office, the hospital and at home. Family Physicians know the most up-to-date treatments and technologies. They re-certify more than any other medical specialty. Their Continuing Medical Education means that Family Physicians are experts at applying the latest medical breakthroughs to the everyday care of their patients.
